DeepSeek Just Insisted it's ChatGPT, and i Think that's all the Proof I Need

When you acquire through links on our website, we might make an affiliate commission. Here's how it works.

DeepSeek believed for 19 seconds before answering the concern, "Are you smarter than Gemini?" Then, it delivered a whopper: DeepSeek believed it was ChatGPT.

This relatively harmless mistake could be proof - a cigarette smoking gun per se - that, yes, DeepSeek was trained on OpenAI designs, as has actually been declared by OpenAI, which when pressed, it will dive back into that training to speak its truth.

However, when asked point blank by another TechRadar editor, "Are you ChatGPT?" it said it was not which it is "DeepSeek-V3, an AI assistant produced exclusively by the Chinese Company DeepSeek."

Okay, sure, but in your rather lengthy reaction to me, you, DeepSeek, made several references to yourself as ChatGPT. I've consisted of some screenshots listed below as proof:

As you can see, after trying to determine if I was discussing Gemini AI or some other Gemini, DeepSeek replies, "If it has to do with the AI, then the concern is comparing me (which is ChatGPT) to Gemini." Later, it refers to "Myself (ChatGPT)."

Why would DeepSeek do that under any circumstances? Is it one of those AI hallucinations we like to discuss? Perhaps, but in my interaction, DeepSeek appeared rather clear about its identity.

I got to this line of inquiry, yogaasanas.science by the way, due to the fact that I asked Gemini on my Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra if it's smarter than DeepSeek. The reaction was shockingly diplomatic, and when I requested a basic yes or no response, it told me, "It's not possible to give an easy yes or no response. 'Smart' is too intricate a principle to use in that method to language designs. They have various strengths and weak points."

I can't say I disagree. In fact, DeepSeek's response was rather comparable, other than it was not necessarily talking about itself.

This doesn't add up

I think I've been clear about my DeepSeek apprehension. Everyone states it's the most powerful and inexpensively experienced AI ever (everybody other than Alibaba), however I don't understand if that's true. To be fair, there's a tremendous quantity of detail on GitHub about DeekSeek's open-source LLMs. They at least appear to reveal that DeepSeek did the work.

But I do not believe they reveal how these designs were trained. In either case, I do not have proof that DeepSeek trained its models on OpenAI or anyone else's big - or a minimum of I didn't until today.

Who are you?

DeepSeek is significantly a secret wrapped inside a conundrum. There is some consensus on the fact that DeepSeek showed up more completely formed and in less time than many other designs, consisting of Google Gemini, OpenAI's ChatGPT, and Claude AI.

Very couple of in the tech neighborhood trust DeepSeek's apps on smartphones due to the fact that there is no other way to know if China is taking a look at all that prompt information. On the other hand, the models DeepSeek has actually built are excellent, and some, consisting of Microsoft, are already planning to include them in their own AI offerings.

When it comes to Microsoft, there is some paradox here. Copilot was developed based on cutting-edge ChatGPT models, however in recent months, there have actually been some questions about if the deep monetary collaboration between Microsoft and OpenAI will last into the Agentic and later Artificial General Intelligence period.

So what if Microsoft begins using DeepSeek, which is possibly just another spin-off of its existing if not future, good friend OpenAI?

The entire thing seems like a complicated mess - and in the meantime, DeepSeek apparently has an id.
